Enzimi -Talents Out! Show your talent-

www.enzimi.com

Enzimi is a festival that is both innovative and contemporary. From ’96 onwards, it has been held every September for around 10 days: shows, concerts, encounters, visions, art….hundreds of Italian and international artists. Two stages for music, a spoken-word theatre and a dance theatre, cinema, meeting space, show spaces, urban projects and a micro-city providing services, info and fun. Enzimi is a permanent observatory of cultures in movement, capable of receiving motivating force from the most dissimilar languages and forms of communication, an on-going search in the area of emerging creative forces. Enzimi is the festival of “future pop” because it offers the public sounds, images, words and energy from today’s most promising artists likely to explode on the international scene tomorrow. Since its launch, the festival, which is completely free of charge, has been attended by over a million visitors who realise that Enzimi is a unique occasion for meeting people and living new experiences.

Enzimi is a city within a city. Every year the festival covers a space of over 20,000 sq m with cutting-edge structures thanks to careful planning of spaces and relations with the urban fabric. Enzimi has rediscovered forgotten corners of the city, transforming them into places where hundreds of thousands of people can meet, share and live together. The Air Terminal (’96 - ’97), the huge station inaugurated for the Italia ’90 World Cup and then abandoned, became the backdrop to the first pioneering Enzimi festivals. Campo Lanciani (-’98 -’00 -’01), the area containing Tiburtina station’s ex-warehouses, hosted a whole series of spectacular events including Lou Reed’s extraordinary return to Italy in ’98. That same year the Ex-Mattatoio in the Testaccio quarter, was re-opened by Zone Attive for the 9th Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean and now houses part of MACRO (Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di ROma) and the Faculty of Architecture of Rome’s RomaTre University. The Grottarossa tram depot on the Via Flaminia (’02) which drew over 50 thousand young people for Subsonica’s closing concert. The run-down Esquiline quarter (’03) was transformed thanks to art, culture and entertainment events into a meeting place and cross-roads. For the first time ever a whole quarter was transformed in an E-city. Piazza Vittorio, the heart of the festival, Piazza dei 500 with great concerts against the modern backdrop of Termini station, the Acquario Romano for dance shows, a number of spaces in Termini station used for exhibitions, the Cappa Mazzoniana, formerly housing the railway-workers’ canteen, transformed into Rome’s biggest club with Jeff Mills’ unforgettable dj set, the Es Hotel, with its minimal-modern architecture for performances. In 2005 Enzimi took place on the Castel Porziano beach, to discover the amrine zone of Rome. In the 2006 ediction Enzimi invaded San Lorenzo district, a reference zone for young people, artists and students.
